"Harvey Weinstein and Meryl Streep new movie to make NRA ‘wish they weren’t alive’"

From Emily Miller at the Washington Times:
Mr. Weinstein then revealed his secret project about the gun rights group. “I shouldn’t say this, but I’ll tell it to you, Howard,” he said. “I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to take this head-on. And they’re going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them.”
The shock jock asked whether the film was going to be a documentary.Mr. Weinstein said no, that it would be a “big movie like a ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.’”
The movie mogul said his vision was to scare people away from firearms. He foresees moviegoers to leave thinking, “Gun stocks — I don’t want to be involved in that stuff. It’s going to be like crash and burn.”
The chairman of the Weinstein Co. (formerly Miramax) is one of President Obama’s biggest fundraisers. He brought in more than $500,000 from his Hollywood friends for the president’s re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee in 2012.  . . . .

I'm going to guess that the film will back fire (like Bloomberg's adds did). Adults don't like to be treated like impressionable teenagers - particularly when they will be asked to adopt an inherently irrational position (that gun control works). I think the whole country is getting more than a little tired of all the mendacious "spinning" going on. God - I wish they would impeach our "spinner in chief"! Do you suppose that might happen if the Republicans taker the Senate later this year?

One interesting thing to do is go onto the Google News Archive (or even the newspaper microfiles at your library) and take a look at movie theatre listings in your locale from about 30 odd years ago. It's astonishing to see what was playing back then in terms of being far more watchable for most adults in most North American locales. Maybe there were many in Hollywood back then who were not big fans of Ronald Reagan, but still you could take in titles like "Ordinary People" or "Chariots of Fire" or "Nine to Five" or "Witness" or even "Working Girl" and not get hit right between the eyes with champagne socialist nonsense so commonplace today.
