New York's new definition of Assault weapons

Well, if the 10 bullet limit on magazine didn't work, surely the 7 bullet limit will have a big effect.  Is the point of rushing these laws through to make sure that they can't be discussed and analyzed.
Assault weapons -- defined as any rifle with a "military style" feature, such as a bayonet or a telescoping stock -- that are currently owned would be grandfathered and would have to be registered with the state. Magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds and manufactured before 1994, which are currently legal, would have to be turned over to authorities or sold out of state within one year. If a magazine has a capacity between eight and 10, it would have to be retrofitted to only hold seven rounds.
Under Cuomo's plan, the state would have one year to set up an instant background check system for all ammunition purchases. Law enforcement would be alerted to large purchases of ammunition. . . .

"No one needs 10 bullets to kill a deer."

There is no recognition of the Second Amendment in New York.

Sold out of state? If Cuomo truly believed in that "Iron Pipeline" crap the gun control crowd has been selling, why would he permit this. If legally purchased guns are being diverted to gun trafficking networks, wouldn't the same hold true for magazines? This law would, using Cuomo's own line of reasoning, potentially put thousands of high capacity magazines into the hands of criminals. The very existence of this provision demonstrates the deceptiveness that was used to sell this bill to the public. The "crisis" it was designed to address doesn't exist, and Cuomo damn well knows it.

As for 7 round magazines, will anyone start manufacturing them just for sale in NY? My guess is that few companies will. Even if any are made, they'll likely be quite expensive. That being the case, most semi-auto pistols in NY will be legally unusable. Andrew Cuomo doesn't want to take your guns (yet), he just wants to prevent you from using them.

Governor Cuomo is effectively saying that while it's not going to be allowed to walk into a school and shoot 30 children before changing magazines, it is going to be allowed to walk into a school and shoot 7 children before changing magazines.
No child should be harmed, not even one. Gun control will not disarm criminals. The only thing that will work is to have armed security, so that no matter what size magazine, or no magazine, or some other type of weapon, it will be the professional responsibility of armed security to stop an attacker and keep the children safe.
No one had that responsibility at Sandy Hook. It's time to assign someone the responsibility of protecting the children in a school, and stop all this BS about restricting every possible weapon in the world - that cannot work. Someone will walk into a school and start bashing in skulls with a golf club. Weapons are not the issue, the issue is the lack of responsibility for adequate security. Someone has to be assigned that responsibility, or no one will be responsible, and we just saw what happens when no one is responsible.
Obama needs to stop grandstanding on gun control, and get real on school security. We can protect our children if we want to protect them, or we just pass more gun control that controls nothing.

Hmmmmm, ban all "military style" stuff, eh?

Will that be expanded to uhhh, slings, arrows, spears, trebuchets, swords, knives, catapults, large iron caldrons, bows, cross bows, matchlocks, flintlocks, pecussion ignition, metallic cartridges, cap and ball, tomahawks, shotguns (yes, shotguns! WWI Trench use), clubs, Roman Short swords, etc.

As Bugs Bunny would say; What a maroon!
