Supposedly Obama signed pledge for Democratic Socialists of America in 1995, received group's endorsement when he ran for state Senate

Supposedly Obama sought and received the Socialist party endorsement when he ran for the state Senate in 1996.

Barack Obama was an active participant in the 1990s, and a direct political beneficiary, of the Chicago New Party and, importantly, the Chicago DSA, a group of socialists affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America.

1) Barack Obama attended and participated in meetings of the Chicago New Party and the Chicago DSA, the local affiliate of the Democratic Socialists of America.
2) Barack Obama sought the endorsement of the Chicago DSA which required rigorous scrutiny by the party’s Political Committee as well as Mr. Obama’s signature on a contract promising “a visible and active relationship with the NP.”
3) Barack Obama actively used the endorsement from the Chicago DSA.
4) Barack Obama won his DSA-endorsed and -backed campaign to secure his seat in the Illinois State Senate.
5) Barack Obama continued his involvement with the Chicago DSA — including directly asking the group to join “his task forces on Voter Education and Voter Registration” — and received their endorsements in subsequent campaigns.

I have no independent verification of this being true, though whether this particular story is true, Obama is a very socialistic person.

I think we may need to remind folks who the DSA is (via the Wayback Machine):

Honest-to-goodness died-red-in-the-wool communists, singing their children to sleep at night with fanciful dreams of murdering the ruling classes.

This doesn't surprise me. I am a little surprised that it's just now coming out, but the fact itself doesn't surprise me.

What bothers me most about this is that it seems like so many people are actually buying into the blatant lie that socialism (or at least socializing certain industries/markets/etc.) will fix the problem(s) we're in because capitalism is what got us here (when the facts clearly point out that government led the way in getting us in this mess.)

*sigh*

So there's the smoking gun

Now, we'll see how much press this gets.

A socialist is a socialist is a socialist

All his stances, votes, policies come into full focus with this information

The DEMOCRATIC Socialists of America is not a SOCIALIST party. They believe in democracy as a means and and an end. They believe in an equal voice for all, not only the ones that have lost count on how many homes they own. The believe government's responsibility is to promote and sustain societal good for the disenfranchised. They are a democratic organization. Are they liberal? yes. Are they for communism? no. But thanks for the accusations McCarthy.

Actually, anonymous, you are mistaken. You may have subjectively defined Democrat Socialists as such and now consider this a fact, but we know what a socialist is from prior knowledge of such governments.

LIBERALS ARE ANYTHING BUT LIBERAL

The bottom line is this: does BO endorse, uphold and encourage freedom of choice, freedom of markets, freedom of speech, freedom, freedom, and more freedom?

The answer about ALL LIBERALS is NO.

They are the party of controls, regulation, deciding how everyone else ought to live, how much money you can earn, what you can say or not say, how much energy you can utilize, control, control, control.

And when control doesn't work, they effort to manipulate.

Are dems/socialists for equality?

Yes, you say to yourself?

Well, then why don't all people pay the same tax rate?

Equality is equality

Redistribution to attempt equality is then to give it to those who are not productive - more control, more manipulation from your party

Your personal rights are life, liberty & pursuit of happiness – not a home, not healthcare, nothing more than the opportunity to create your own life as you decide with as little government involvement as possible

Is that what dems/socialists are about?

No, they are not

Your party decides the quality of life that all individuals should live and then attempt to force everyone into it. The arrogance of such people to decide how the rest of the world ought to live

When in reality, each person should decide - that's freedom

NO PERSON IS WHERE HE OR SHE IS IN LIFE RIGHT NOW WITHOUT HAVING MADE A SERIES OF CHOICES FOR WHICH HE OR SHE IS NOW LIVING – AND MUST NOW BE ACCOUTNABLE AND MUST BE ABLE TO RESPOND TO THOSE CHOICES

Consider this: if anyone is NOT giving you a choice, then control and manipulation is the tactic.
