Rumor: Huckabee will drop out of the Republican Presidential Contest by March 10th to Run for the Senate from Arkansasential contest by

I heard this rumor today, but it sounds pretty plausible to me. The filing date for the Arkansas Senate race is March 10th, and Huckabee seems virtually guaranteed of winning if he runs for the senate.

If it turns out to be true, then it's plausible that he thinks McCain will not win the Presidency.

Dear Rail:

I don't see how that follows. I don't think that McCain was going to ask him to be the VP. Huckabee can win a Senate race and stay active in politics, so that seems like an attractive option.

I say look for McCain to pick Joe Lieberman to be his VP.

That ought to really piss off conservatives.

I hate to say it but I predict if the Republican Party don't get it together, they will lose again in 08.

Dear Davy:

Thanks, but I would guess that McCain will pick someone who conservatives can be happy with. It will be interesting to see who is correct. Yet, given McCain's age, this pick will be more important than most.

John, I happen to think McCain will ask Huckabee to be his running mate. If Huckabee suspects there's even a chance of this, in order to remain in politics, it's to his advantage to run for an office he can easily win. Lieberman did the same thing in 2000, running for re-election to his Senate seat while simultaneously being Gore's running mate.
